Holding On

Holding On

“For if you continue to involve yourself with a difficult person, there is something that is keeping you there. And you are holding onto that which you gain, while trying to remove the pain.”

Kapil Gupta

That abusive client pays you good money.

That unhappy relationship provides you company.

That small bank balance keeps you on par with your friends.

That life-sucking job puts food on the table and pays your rent.

That playing small is safely in your comfort zone.

That story, that excuse, that fear holds on tight.

We say we don’t want it.

We complain about it.

We fight and struggle against it.

We worry about it.

But we don’t remove it because really we are holding on to it.
